Choosing a Floral: Scale First, Then Colour

Floral wallpaper fails when the scale is wrong for the room, not when the colour is. A small, dense repeat like a ditsy wildflower reads as texture from across the room and suits a whole bedroom or a powder room. A mid-scale floral with visible individual blooms suits a feature wall. A large-scale mural, one flower head the size of a pillow, is a single-wall decision and the most dramatic option we make. Decide which of those three you want before you look at colour, and the choice narrows from seventy-five designs to about a dozen.

Where Florals Work

Bedrooms and nurseries first. A dark floral behind a bed, a soft peony in a nursery, a small wildflower in a guest room. Powder rooms and bathrooms take a bold floral well because the wall area is small and the effect is contained. Use vinyl peel and stick there for the wipeable finish. Dining rooms suit the darker, larger designs. A hallway suits a small repeat that will not fight the doors. If you are unsure, order the 24 x 24 inch sample and tape it to the wall for a day.

Materials and Ordering

Every floral comes in three materials chosen at checkout: vinyl peel and stick, slightly satin, wipeable, the stronger grip and fine on moderately textured walls. Fabric peel and stick, matte, the easiest to install and the renter-friendly choice. Traditional unpasted Type II for commercial work or a professional hang. All three are commercial grade for durability and Class A fire rated. Rolls are 24 inches wide in 60, 96, 108 and 122 inch lengths, with a roll calculator on every product page and custom sizes on request. Wait thirty days after painting. How do I match the pattern between rolls?

Each product page lists the repeat. Measure the papered area, divide the width by 24, round up, and add one roll. The calculator does this for you.

Dark floral wallpaper: will it make the room feel small?

On one wall, no. It gives the room depth. On four walls in a small room with little light, yes. Most people use a dark floral on the bed wall or in a powder room.

Is peel and stick floral wallpaper safe in a nursery?

Yes. Fabric peel and stick is the usual nursery choice. Behind a crib, we recommend a wallpaper primer and a strip of permanent double-sided tape along the top edge as extra insurance.
