Family Tree Decals
The Original Photo Gallery Tree
We drew the first family tree wall decal in 2009 for a wall that needed to hold a lot of framed photos without looking like a bulletin board. The idea was simple: a tree whose branches give every frame a place to sit, so the photos read as one composition. Seventeen years later it is still the product we are best known for, and the shape that others copy. Every version here is a thin cut-vinyl transfer that goes on in sections, holds real framed photos on the branches, and peels off cleanly when you move.
Five Family Trees
The original Family Tree, up to 107 inches wide, is the full spreading canopy with room for twenty or more frames. The Simple Modern Family Tree is the cleaner, more graphic version for a contemporary room. The Two Colors tree separates trunk and leaves into two tones. The Narrow Family Tree is drawn tall and slim for a wall between windows or beside a door. And the Staircase Family Tree follows a stairwell, rising with the steps so the photos climb with you. All come in Chestnut Brown or Black as standard, or in any colour from our chart, and birds can be added at checkout.
Planning the Photos
Hang the tree first, then the frames. The tree will tell you where they go. Mixed frame sizes look better than uniform ones, and a few unframed prints on small clips break up the weight. Leave the outer branches lighter and put the largest frames low and central, near the trunk. Most people start with eight to twelve photos and add over the years, which is the point. Use removable picture hangers if you are renting, so the whole wall comes down without a mark.
Sizing, Applying and Removing
Measure the wall width and pick the tree that spans roughly two-thirds of it. Ceiling lower than the tree is fine: the trunk is designed to be hand-cut at the bottom, and it can be cut to sit above a chair rail. The decal arrives in sections with an application tool. Tape the sections to the wall and step back before applying, because placement is final once a transfer decal is down. Smooth or lightly textured walls, painted at least thirty days ago. It removes without damaging paint. Made to order in our Ramsey, New Jersey studio and usually shipped in one to three business days.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many photos fit on the tree?
The original holds twenty or more in mixed sizes. The narrow and simple modern versions hold ten to fifteen. Frames are not included.
Can I reposition it if I get the placement wrong?
No. It is a transfer decal and placement is final, which is why we ask you to tape the sections up first.
What if my wall is shorter than the tree?
Cut the bottom of the trunk. The tree is designed for it, and a taller size still works on a shorter wall.
Can it go up a staircase?
Yes. The Staircase Family Tree is drawn for exactly that, rising with the steps.
