Plaid & Gingham Wallpaper
Plaid and gingham wallpaper: a cozy tartan plaid, a classic gingham check and a checkered fabric look in three scales. Peel-and-stick or unpasted, made to order in New Jersey.
Plaid, Gingham, Check: Which Is Which
Gingham is the simplest: two colours, equal-width bands crossing at right angles, one of them usually white. It is the picnic-cloth pattern and it reads as fresh and light. A plaid, or tartan, crosses bands of several widths and colours, so the pattern is denser and warmer; ours is the Cozy Plaid, a soft flannel-shirt version rather than a formal tartan. A checkered fabric look sits between the two: a woven check with a visible textile grain, offered small, medium and large so you can choose how much the pattern asserts itself.
The Five Patterns
The Cozy Plaid comes in beige grey, brown, sage, lilac and off white, and it is the one that lands in bedrooms, dens and cabins; it also sells as a stair riser, so a staircase can match. The Gingham Check Pattern comes in grey, pale pink, dusky blue and honey wheat with a tight 1.5-inch repeat, which makes it nearly seamless roll to roll and an easy first wallpaper. The Checkered Fabric Look in small, medium and large is the same woven check at three scales; small reads as texture, large reads as a statement, and each comes in five colourways.
Where These Go
Gingham is a kitchen, laundry room, pantry and nursery pattern, and works on cabinet backs and drawer fronts as well as walls. Plaid is a bedroom, den and mudroom pattern; the Cozy Plaid behind a bed is one of our most repeated orders. The checkered looks are the most flexible: small in a bathroom or hallway, large on a single feature wall. All three suit modern farmhouse and cabin interiors, and the lighter colourways keep a small room from closing in.
Materials and Ordering
Every design comes as vinyl peel and stick, fabric peel and stick, or traditional unpasted, all Class A fire rated and Prop 65 compliant. Fabric removes without damaging paint and is the renter-friendly choice; vinyl has the stronger grip and a wipeable satin finish. Rolls are 24 inches wide in 60, 96, 108 and 122 inch lengths, the repeat is on every product page, and the roll calculator does the math. Wait thirty days after painting before installing. Made to order in our Ramsey, New Jersey studio, shipping in about one to three business days.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is gingham hard to line up?
No. With a 1.5-inch repeat the match is almost invisible, which is why gingham is a good first project.
Does the plaid match at the seams?
Yes, it is a single-roll repeat; every roll is identical and the calculator accounts for the match.
Can I get the plaid on my stairs too?
Yes. The Cozy Plaid is also cut as a stair riser strip in the same colourways.
Which scale of check should I choose?
Small for a whole room or a bathroom, medium for a feature wall in a normal-sized room, large for a big wall or a high ceiling. Samples are available in every scale.
