Choosing a Tree for the Wall

A tree decal is a drawing of a tree cut from thin vinyl, applied in sections, that reads as painted on the wall once it is up. It is the one decal that suits nearly every room: a nursery, a bedroom, a hallway, a dining room, a waiting room. Sixty designs are here, and they sort into a handful of families. Decide which family first, then the size, then the colour. Every tree removes cleanly from painted walls when you are done with it.

The Families

Birch trees are sold as sets of trunks, usually with birds, owls, deer or a forest of animals among them, and they are the most forgiving to place: the trunks can be spread or bunched to fit the wall. Cherry blossoms come in an elegant style, a ceiling style that spreads across the top of the wall, and a cute style for a child's room. Weeping willows, leafy or with wisteria or blossoms, drape from a single high point. The bare winter tree, the blowing-leaves tree and the falling-leaves overreaching tree are the quiet, graphic ones for a grown-up room. The family trees hold framed photos on the branches. Shelving trees turn floating shelves into limbs. Corner trees wrap a wall edge, the bed-canopy tree drapes over the head of a bed, and the growth-chart trees mark height in pencil. Then the animal trees: monkeys and a palm, koalas, pandas, a sloth, a safari tree, a tree with a bird family, a forest of tiny trees, and a mountain scene with trees for the wall that wants a landscape.

Sizing a Tree

Measure the wall height and width and the furniture the tree will sit above. A tree that spans about two-thirds of the wall width and starts a hand's width above the headboard, crib or sofa reads as intentional; a tree that touches the ceiling and the skirting reads as wallpaper. Most designs come in two or three heights. If the ceiling is lower than the size you want, order it anyway: the trunk on every tree is designed to be trimmed at the bottom with scissors or a craft knife.

Colour, Application and Removal

Trees come in Chestnut Brown, Black and other standard colours, and every design can be printed in any colour from our chart, with the leaves or animals in a second colour on the two-tone designs. The decal arrives in sections with an application tool and instructions. Tape the sections up first and step back; placement is final on a transfer decal. Walls should be smooth or lightly textured and painted at least thirty days ago. To remove, lift a corner and peel slowly. Everything is designed and made to order in our Ramsey, New Jersey studio and usually ships in one to three business days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the tree face the other way?

Many designs can be mirrored. Ask us before ordering and we will confirm it for the design you want.

Are the birds and animals included?

If they are in the product name and photos, yes. Extra birds and leaves can be added to many designs at checkout.

Will it work on a textured wall?

Lightly textured, yes. Heavy orange-peel or knockdown texture will not hold the fine branches; order a sample first.

Can I move it later?
