Wallpaper for Stair Risers, Without Cutting Down a Roll
Most people who search for wallpaper for stair risers are planning to buy a 24-inch roll and cut it into 7-inch strips. It can be done. It is also fiddly, wasteful, and hard to keep square. These are our wallpaper patterns printed on the same vinyl, but pre-cut to riser height and 48 inches wide, one strip per stair. You get the wallpaper look on the staircase without a cutting mat, a straightedge, or a bin full of offcuts.
Match the Stairs to the Wall
Nearly every riser in this collection exists as a full wallpaper too — Cozy Plaid, Gingham Check, Watercolor Herringbone, Terrazzo, Crocodile, Cement Concrete, Tropical Palm Leaves, Rattan Weave and many more, in the same colourways. That opens up two ways to use them. Run the wallpaper up the stairwell wall and the same pattern across the risers, so the staircase reads as part of the room. Or leave the walls plain and let the risers carry the pattern on their own, which is the more common choice and the more dramatic one. Either way the strips and the rolls come from the same studio, so the pattern and colour names mean the same thing on both.
How Stair Riser Wallpaper Goes On
It is peel and stick — no paste, no primer. Strips are 48 inches wide in 6, 6.5, 7 and 7.5 inch heights; measure one riser and choose the closest. One strip covers one riser, in packs of three or six. They stick to painted, primed or finished wood, including varnished and polyurethaned risers, and they are for the vertical riser face only, never the treads. The vinyl is repositionable during installation, so a crooked strip lifts and re-lays. Every strip is identical, so unlike wallpaper on a wall there is no pattern repeat to match from one riser to the next.

A 6 x 6 inch sample shows the pattern at riser scale. Strips are made to order in our Ramsey, New Jersey studio and ship in about one to three business days. Order the full staircase in one go — print runs vary very slightly between dates, and one order keeps every riser the same. Is this the same as your regular wallpaper?
Same patterns and colourways, cut for risers and sold by the strip instead of the roll.
Can I just use regular wallpaper on my risers?
You can cut a roll down to riser height. These save the cutting, the waste, and the trouble of keeping fourteen hand-cut strips square.
Does the pattern continue from riser to riser?
Every strip is identical, so each riser matches the next. There is no repeat to align the way there is on a wall.
Can I put it on the treads too?
No. Riser face only. The tread is a walking surface and these are not designed for it.
